A: Common governor malfunctions mainly manifest as continuous fluctuations in engine speed or constant oscillations in the fuel quantity regulating mechanism. These phenomena are not necessarily caused by a fault in the governor itself. To determine the cause of the abnormal phenomenon, the following checks should be performed first:

1) Check for severe uneven load distribution in each cylinder or failure of individual cylinders to fire;

2) Check for jamming or excessive clearance in the fuel quantity regulating mechanism between the governor and the fuel injection pump;

3) Check the transmission mechanism of the governor's drive shaft for proper functioning, such as the meshing of gears and the fixing of transmission gears;

4) For the main engine, observe the load indicator or load gauge. If there is periodic oscillation, check if the propeller is unbalanced.

If fluctuations persist after ruling out the above causes, then further investigation into the governor itself is necessary. Dirty lubricating oil is the most common cause of governor malfunctions. This can be resolved by cleaning the governor and changing the lubricating oil. Instances requiring disassembly and internal adjustment due to inherent faults in the speed controller are relatively rare.
